What Life Coaching is and isn't...
Life coaching focuses on the future.
Life Coaching provides clients with specialized support to:
- clarify their personal goals
- design a plan to achieve success
- identify roadblocks and behaviors that stand in their way
- accountably move forward.
Life Coaching is not...
- Therapy, which is based on healing past dysfunction
- Mentoring, which is based on collaboration
- Consulting, which offers solutions to the client
- Evaluating, which is assessing and making judgments
Life Coaching practices we emphasize in our programs:
- acceptance of the coachee's present place in life and present mindset
- Non-judgmental communication, deep listening, and neutral stance to create a trusting environment
- use of empowering, reflective questions to lead a change process and probe for possible solutions
- helping the coachee visualize new possibilities and create conditions for success
- inspiring the coachee to reach new levels of accomplishment
- keeping the coachee in action
Practicing Life Coaching skills in our context:
- improves respect and mutal trust and therefore substantially opens communication
- clarifies beliefs, values, and goals
- identifies core strengths and how to best utilize them
- transforms individuals and school climates
- provides skills that are valuable in all interpersonal relationships
The inherent skills of coached students are enhanced as they find the power of their own self awareness, self governance, and
self responsibility. Academic performance improves and disciplinary referrals decrease as a result.
