Coach's Background:
Deborah began her education in
behavioral dynamics and problem-solving as the only daughter of immigrant
parents in a family of seven brothers. Her diverse employment history
(governess, census crew leader, remedial writing workshop instructor,
administrative assistant, executive secretary, toll taker at the Brooklyn
Battery Tunnel, police officer, and police sergeant) paved the way to a
comprehensive understanding of the workplace, and human nature, in all its
varying scenarios. Deborah has worked in law enforcement with one of the largest
municipal police departments in the world for over twenty-five years. In that
time she has developed an ability to assess situations and create workable
solutions, often under high-pressure conditions. Her police career has included
a wide range of functions, including police officer on patrol, academy
instructor, sergeant, and, for the past thirteen years, managing human
resources, where she mentors and helps develop leaders.
Introducing Coach Deborah!
Deborah Avery is the Founder and President of New York Executive Coaching, LLC.
She is an Professional Certified Coach with the International Coach Federation
and a Certified Empowerment Coach with iPEC, the Institute for Professional
Empowerment Coaching. Deborah loves working one-on-one and helping people who
are motivated to reach a “miniphany” – her term for a small epiphany: that
moment when clarity and understanding replace doubt and uncertainty. Her
knowledge of goal-setting, time-management, and establishing action plans that
hold people accountable inspires clients to do their best. Her intuitive style
and ability to strategically think more than a few moves ahead enable her to
effectively accelerate the growth and development of clients who desire focus
and clarity in achieving goals and becoming successful. Deborah helps each
client transform into his or her “best self” by helping them crystallize their
vision into reality. Her coaching helps strip away those behaviors that are in
direct opposition to achieving each client’s own version of the life of their
dreams.
This coach requires:
My clients must be ready to examine how the choices they make contribute to
the overall status of their lives. They are ready to divest themselves of
habits, behaviors, and limiting beliefs that no longer serve their needs and to
embrace new ways of thinking, behaving, and living that will ensure the
achievement of the lives they desire for themselves. When a client partners with
me on their individual coaching journey with honesty and the desire to live
fearlessly, new possibilities emerge and the world responds.
This coach volunteers because:
Because I feel blessed in so many
ways, I always try to give back to others whenever possible. When I discovered
Life’s Headwaters and the great work they do, I saw this as a natural way to
pass on the benefits of coaching to those who might not otherwise have a chance
to have that life-improving experience.
This coach is unique because:
Because of my many years of experience in law enforcement, I bring a sense of
realism and possibility based on my understanding of the human condition. I’ve
had an opportunity to see the worst in people and also the very best. I’m always
looking for that new perspective that can turn a negative situation into a
powerfully positive opportunity for growth and improvement.
This coach offers these life tips:
1. Your own attitude is one of your most important treasures. Don’t give any
one else the power to influence your attitude in a negative manner.
2. Strive to be fearless in your actions when it comes to achieving the life of
your dreams. If you can’t be fearless, don’t allow the feeling of fear to deter
you from doing the work required to get what you desire.
3. You are so much more than the sum total of everyone else’s opinion of you.
Often we are so trained by others at an early age as to who we are and how we
should act that we fail to fully realize our own unique talents and abilities.
Give yourself the gift of determining your own special identity.
